Good Hope Artificial Insemination Centre has so far received over 300 herd of cattle.
Good Hope Sub-council chairperson, Mr Boniface Leshomo told the sub-council meeting on Monday that the cattle would allow the sub-district to have access to superior bulls for cross breeding to improve the herd quality and performance.
That, he added was also in line with government’s efforts to address food security challenges, improve service delivery and eradicate poverty through the agricultural sector.
He said the AI programme had been improved and currently animals would be aided to get ready to mate instead of waiting for them to do so naturally.
On the other hand, Mr Leshomo told the meeting that the export of live cattle, which was introduced in March 2019, had been extended until December next year.
“Farmers have benefited from this dispensation since it has increased buyer competitiveness and access to other markets, which ultimately led to higher prices for them,” he said.
On other issues, Mr Leshomo said the Good Hope Sub-district water supply augmentation scheme phase 2.2 project had two contracts, which started in April and May this year and are reported to be at 17 and 28 per cent respectively.
Further, he indicated that there were two more short term projects; the equipping of a borehole at Maiphitlhwane and the construction of a new pipeline and 15 metre elevated tank as well as the rehabilitation of Good Hope vacuum sewer system, which were at evaluation stage.
Mr Leshomo revealed that the Lobatse water supply master plan package 1 and 2 were at 91 and 80 per cent completion respectively, saying the projects were both behind schedule due to COVID-19 lockdowns.
On land allocation, Mr Leshomo said so far the sub-district had managed to allocate 2 604 plots, adding that they would allocate 500 plots before March 31 next year. ENDS
