Village Imaging reaches out to Molepolole with screening services
06 Nov 2022
A number of women in Molepolole braved the rain for breast cancer screening by Village Imaging at the main kgotla on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Ms Nita Bhagat of Village Imaging said they started the programme in 2008 and that their mobile service provided an opportunity for women anywhere in the country to screen for breast cancer.
They offer mammography and ultra-scans, and due to its advanced technology, the radiographer accesses the real time images anywhere in the world.
Ms Bhagat encouraged women to take advantage of the services they offered, adding that early detection of cancer made it easier to be treated.
The programme is sponsored by First Capital Bank Botswana and Rosy Blue Facets, a diamond cutting and polishing company in Molepolole.
Ms Reinette van der Merwe, managing director of First Capital Bank Botswana, urged women to use the facilities and also create awareness about breast cancer.
For his part, Mr Christopher Mamalelala of Rosy Blue Facets said although their company had just been established, they saw the need to be part of the programme that would uplift the community.
Mr Mamalelala, a radiologist, advised women to go for regular screening, saying early detection was crucial.
He said statistics had revealed that 80 per cent of women sought assistance late and urged all women aged above 45 years to take advantage of the mobile service.
It has been reported that almost 700 000 women worldwide lost their lives due to breast cancer and that it was the second highest killer after cervix cancer. ENDS
