Matlapana Health Post gets shelter

06 Nov 2022

Ngamiland District Health Management Team (DHMT) has handed over a P30 000 shelter they erected at Matlapana Health Post waiting area in Maun.

The shelter was built as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to mark the 2022 Nurses Day that was commemorated in Maun in August.

Giving an overview of the project at the handover ceremony on Thursday, chief nursing officer at Ngamiland DHMT, Ms Keoagetse Kgwabi stated that it was the prerogative of every district that hosts Nurses’ Day to come up with a CSR project in their area, hence Ngamiland DHMT had identified Matlapana Health Post.

Ms Kgwabi highlighted that her team observed that Matlapana clinic was in need of a shade for patients to sit under while awaiting their turn to be assisted.

She said in the past patients would sit under trees, which she noted was not working as some days were characterised by bad weather.

Ngamiland nurses then raised funds, which were, however insufficient, hence they ended up seeking assistance from private companies who donated building materials.

“I urge you to look after this shelter and keep it clean at all times because cleanliness contributes to good health,” Ms Kgwabi said.

Matlapana ward Kgosi Kebatho Kesekile thanked Ngamiland DHMT for building them a shelter, which he said would shield them from harsh weather conditions such as the scotching sun and rain.

He said that Matlapana Health Post was one of the oldest in Maun, hence it was so old a structure it needed to be maintained regularly.

Kgosi Kesekile said Matlapana ward population was mostly the elderly, who frequented the health post for medical check ups. He implored Ngamiland DHMT to continue reaching out to the needy and vulnerable people in the spirit of giving back to the society. ENDS
