Youth delinquency worries MP
31 Aug 2022
Member of Parliament for Lerala-Maunatlala has criticised the escalating delinquent incidents happening in the Tswapong area lately.
Addressing Kgotla meetings in Maunatlala and Lesenepole on Tuesday respectively, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele condemned such behavior, saying residents now lived in fear.
He was worried that the situation seemed to be getting out of hand, citing a recent incident that occurred in Malaka where a group of boys intentionally burnt a house.
The MP also said he received a lot of complaints about mischievousness among youth while addressing Kgotla meetings in villages such as Mokokwana and Mosweu recently.
He therefore, appealed to parents to instill discipline in and they should warn children about the dangers of criminal activities and how might affect their future.
The legislator however, noted that he had also talked to the senior police officer in the region about monitoring the situation and neccessary action taken.
Mr Modukanele also talked about the worrisome reported incidents of stock theft in Tswapong area.
Regarding the long awaited Maunatala clinic expansion project, the MP assured residents that it would soon commence and would be upgraded to become a hospital.
Many speakers complained about the state of the clinic, that the population of Maunatlala had outgrown services offered by a clinic, rather a hospital was ideal.
One resident, Mr Kelesitse Tshikara complained about delayed land allocation for by Maunatlala Sub landboard.
Mr Samuel Morebudi concurred and suggested that landboard should be a one stop shop, adding it was cumbersome to access other landboard services from different departments, such as having to go to the police first in order to register for plots.
Still on grievances, Mr Balebadi Phiri decried serious shortage of water in his ward of Seokisa since 2020.
An official from landboard noted that Maunatlala Sub landboard would soon start allocating residential plots, adding there were 1 199 people on the waiting list.
Meanwhile, in Lesenepole a village development committee report indicated that there was need for a post office in the village and also the need for upgrading of the clinic.
The report also indicated that there was serious shortage of accommodation for teachers at the school, hence the need for more staff houses.
As for the gravel road that connects Lesenepole and Maunatlala, Mr Abel Mathambo suggested that it be graded at least three times a year to keep it in a good state all the time. Ends
