Lions club screens donates to Moiyabana residents

29 Aug 2022

Residents of Moiyabana in Central District were, on Saturday, treated to free eye testing courtesy of Phakalane Lions Club.

The exercise also included screening for non-communicable ailments such as diabetes and blood pressure.

Both the young and old seized the opportunity to get tested for eye diseases at an event where the club also donated clothes to disadvantaged residents.

The club’s district governor, Mr Vinay Naicker, said they brought optician volunteers to attend to the community with short and long sightedness challenges.

He said all the children who needed eye glasses received them for free.

The reality, he said, was that many families could not afford to buy spectacles and therefore, the club was trying to bridge the gap.

He stated that they had set themselves a target of donating 100 free eye glasses to deserving children and elders, a goal they managed to achieve.

Area Member of Parliament, Mr Leepetswe Lesedi stated that he approached Lion’s club for assistance.

He encouraged those who were given spectacles to take good care of them.

Most elders stated that they had given up home of owning spectacles because they were costly and thanked Lion’s club for coming to their rescue. ENDS
