MPs pay tribute to fallen legislators
06 Nov 2013
Parliamentarians have paid their tribute to the late members of Parliament, Mr Maxwell Motowane and Mr Tshelang Masisi of Letlhakeng West and Francistown West respectively.
Speaking on behalf of other members of Parliament, Palapye MP, Mr Moiseraela Goya described both Mr Motowane and Mr Masisi as ‘true sons of the soil’ who contributed immensely to the development of the country and its citizenry.
He said Mr Motowane was an erudite and eloquent debater who accomplished towering achievements since he joined Parliament in 2009. He said the deceased was a burdened leader who was constantly consumed with the nation’s challenges for economic diversification, poverty eradication and a strong belief in human empowerment.
Mr Motowane was also described as a rare leader whose life’s quest to take head on the challenges of marginalisation and poverty amongst others were best exemplified by his desire to put the interests of the electorate first at all times. Mr Masisi on one hand was described as a charismatic and popular politician with an uncanny ability to be combative in all that he was engaged on.
Mr Goya said the late Mr Masisi possessed rare traits that disposed him to jump into the deep end of the political fray of Francistown politics hundreds of miles from his Moshupa village and yet emerged victorious time and again.
“Mr Masisi’s love for people made him a staunch supporter for workers’ rights and his clarion call was for a separation of the teaching profession from the public service,” explained Mr Goya.
Mr Goya said the establishment of the Masisi Organ Foundation would be an enduring testament that Masisi was dedicated to helping the many who suffered from the painful kidney infirmity. For his part, the MP for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile, who was speaking on behalf of the Umbrella for Democratic Change, described the deceased MPs as two individuals who put the interests of Batswana at heart.
Speaking on behalf of the Botswana Congress Party, the MP for Kgatleng West, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa applauded the departed MPs for having been true representatives of the people and working towards serving the community without fear or favour. ENDS
