Classic 93 Club tackles youth challenges

28 Aug 2022

Some young people have formed a Classic 93 Club to help tackle problems bedevilling the youth.

The society’s public relations officer, Pastor Eric Kuapara, said in an interview that the club was formed by youth born in 1993.

They share similar concerns such as youth delinquency and poor performance of school-going children.

He said the aim was to extend a helping hand where it was needed and carrying out activities that would impact positively on communities.

“Through our different expertise, we intend to engage youths from our communities be it our peers or youngsters and drill them on life skills so that they grow as responsible citizens,” he added.

Pastor Kuapara said they wanted to see young people contributing to the development of the country, adding some felt marginalised because of their backgrounds and other reasons known to them.

The club, he said, would offer services such as donations, counselling and tutoring as well as organising sessions to sensitise their peers and school-going children and to instil the importance of education at the same time inculcating discipline.

Indiscipline acts amongst young people, he said, was the cause of failure and stressed that their priority focus would be to fight social ills first to sharpen their minds towards making well informed decisions.

Pastor Kuapara further noted that it was heartbreaking to see some students indulging in alcohol at the expense of their education.

Currently, he said they were organising a retreat where they would bring young people under one roof, adding that engaging them would give a sense of belonging and opporunity to share personal experiences.

The club will also encourage youth to take advantage of government programmes to improve their lives.

Pastor Kuapara appealed to the Mbaderu and Herero communities to support the society so that it could achieve its mandate.

He noted that they intended to extend membership to their counterparts in Namibia to drive the same initiative. BOPA
