First Lady takes action

11 Aug 2022

First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi has proposed the establishment of a life coaching centre in Rakops to help curb gender based violence (GBV) with part of the P300 000 she has sourced for Komowanko Social Club.

Speaking in the village on Tuesday, Ms Masisi said the funds comprised P100 000 from Diacore Gaborone Marathon and P200 000 (half of which is a pledge) from Lucara Botswana.

The club had initially requested funds for putting up a cultural village.

However, Ms Masisi said given the worrisome GBV statistics in Rakops which were confirmed during her meetings with married women, girls and children last year, a life coaching centre was a necessity.

She said the proposed centre should be a place for providing life coaching and counselling services as well as guidance and motivational support.

It should assist with formation of good healthy relationships in both a family setup and in the community, she said.

Ms Masisi said there should be a positive change in the centre’s clients.

It should be a place that would leave a lasting legacy for the benefit of future generations, she said.

Ms Masisi also donated two industrial sewing machines from Dubai’s Mac Foundation to the club.

She implored members of Komowanko Social Club to account for the two donations.

The Vice President and also area MP, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said the planned development would enhance and elevate the lives of the people of Rakops.

Mr Tsogwane said through the donation, Ms Masisi had accorded club members an opportunity to support and sustain their families while at the same time offering services to the community.

He commended Ms Masisi for her commitment towards bringing peace and tranquility in families.

The vice president advised the club to embark on projects beneficial to the Rakops community.

He urged the community to support the club to enable it to achieve its intended mandate.

Lucara Botswana managing director, Ms Naseem Lahri stated that Komowanko Social Club had a huge potential to change people’s lives.

Ms Lekgatho Gabolatiwe, a club member, said GBV cases were more prevalent among women, girls and children and had in many cases led to loss of life.

She said the club’s intention was to partner with the First Lady in fighting GBV through providing counselling services and promoting happy families.

In addition to the proposed centre,  the club plans to establish a cultural village where fashion and fabrics graduates could intern and also find jobs.
