McCathys Rust road resealing on track

10 Aug 2022

The P18 million resealing and road marking of Tsabong McCathy’s Rust twenty four kilometers road project is well on course.

Speaking in an interview, Ultimate Dream Construction Company site agent, Mr Tshepo Setima said the project which started on May 18 and was expected to be completed next year at the same time, so far stood at 16 per cent completion rate.

Mr Setima said the project scope entailed patching of potholes, extension of road edges to six meters, resealing and road markings and placement of curb stones.

“We are currently patching potholes, afterwards we will apply slurry, expand the edges which have been eroded, then reseal and afterwards we will be doing road markings and place road signs,” he said. In addition, he said they would also flatten the sand dunes which interfered with the road.

The project has employed a total of 26 employees and majority of them are locals in line with driving local economic empowerment, he said. Meanwhile he noted that construction progressed well as they faced minimal challenges and received good support from the community, adding that road users also cooperated well.

However, he said, the challenge was that McCathy’s Rust boarder post recently opened, which created traffic on the narrow road, “it delays progress as we have to wait for them to pass, it causes potholes, road is narrow so the traffic erodes the road edges,” he said.

The site agent urged the department of road networks to hasten to maintain the roads regularly because it was costly to maintain dilapidated roads. ends
