Technical officers vacancies to be filled by September

10 Aug 2022

Two vacant posts of technical officers in Charleshill and Tsabong, which fell vacant in April, will be filled by end of September, says Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale. Responding to a question in Parliament, the minister acknowledged that shortage of technical officers had a negative impact on service delivery, particularly in regards to roads supervision and inspection. “It is logical that the department would have been adversely affected as it experiences shortages when it comes to supervision and inspection of roads as well as the maintenance of roads,” he said. The minister noted that the last external recruitment to fill technical officer positions was in June 2010 when four graduates from the Roads Training Centre were employed. He said ever all vacant posts for technically officer were filled internally. Gaborone Bonnington South MP, Mr Christian Greeff had asked the minister to state when last the roads department recruited externally and employed graduates from the Roads Training Centre and technical officers. He also asked about the number of vacant posts currently available at the roads department for posts of technical officers, the extent to which the shortage had affected the roads department as well as plans in place to fill the vacant posts of technical officers during this financial year.
