No plans for customary court at Gaborone Central
09 Aug 2022
There are no plans to establish a customary court at Gaborone Central, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele has told Parliament.
He said the current five customary courts in Gaborone were adequate to deliver services to the city’s population.“My ministry has no plans of creating the position of court president, normally referred to as kgosi, in Gaborone Central, as the existing customary courts in Gaborone are adequate to deal with the workload in Gaborone,” he said.
He said each customary court had a court president and deputy court president as well as support staff. He also said customary courts across the country were not aligned with constituency boundaries, hence Gaborone Central was within the jurisdiction of Broadhurst and Urban customary courts.
Gaborone Central MP, Mr Tumisang Mangwegape-Healy had asked the minister to state when Gaborone Central would have a kgosi and support staff. ENDS
