BURS millions theft trial September 22

Gaborone High Court judge, Justice Itumeleng Segopolo has scheduled for September 22, trial of a case in which an employee of Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS), Ronald Kgano is alleged to have snitched BURS millions of pula to acquire properties.

Justice Segopolo ordered on Thursday when Kgano and other interested parties appeared before him to show cause why the restraining order made against the concerned properties on July 14, should not be made final.

The said properties are suspected to proceeds of corruption.

  The properties, which their value runs into millions of pula include among others a ploughing field situated at Monwane lands, red Bhero tractor, JCB 3DX front loader , JCB back loader , blue Volvo tipper truck , two Toyota dyna trucks, white Toyota land cruiser pickup and Toyota Hilux pickup.

Others are a Nissan Atlas truck, two Toyota Hiace minibuses, blue sedan Toyota Camry, blue Toyota Runx, black polo vivo, white Toyota Land cruiser, white Isuzu DMax, BHDH disc harrow, BHDP disc plough, BHVP vegetable planter and BHMP maize planter.

The court had among others prohibited all persons with the knowledge of the order from disposing, interfering, or diminishing the value of the properties.

Justice Segopolo further directed that Molepolole sub-land board should endorse the customary land grant specified in the order with the restriction that the property or property representing such property, shall not, without the prior leave of the court be attached, sold in execution, be mortgaged or encumbered, provided that such endorsement shall not prevent a transfer of the property affected in accordance with any incidental orders of the court.

Notwithstanding that, court ordered that any person who has financial obligations in respect of the property should fulfill such obligations, pending investigations or the finalisation of the forfeiture proceedings unless such person signs a consent to judgment in favour of the applicant.

 Kgano was represented by Mr Kgosietsile Ngakayagae , while Ms Tshepiso Lediretse represented BH Botswana, Mr Olehille Manchwe represented Astebel Pty Ltd and Dr Obonye Jonas represented Hope Security and Busani Investments Pty Ltd. ENDs
