Shakawe sewage pond overwhelmed
07 Aug 2022
Capacity limitations do not allow the disposal of affluent from private sewage collectors into the Shakawe sewage pond.
Responding to a parliamentary question, Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila said the facility was overwhelmed by sewage load from Shakawe Senior Secondary School and the Joseph Kavindama Hospital.
“The sewage ponds are an institutional facility operated by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. The facility cannot receive sewage from private sewage collectors because it has capacity limitations,” said the minister.
He said in view of the design limitations of the facility, additional load to the sewage ponds would result in failure of the treatment process.
Okavango MP, Mr Kenny Kapinga had asked the minister why those responsible for the sewage dam in Shakawe could not allow private sewage collectors to dispose of sewage into the said dam rather than drive all the way to Gumare. ENDs
