Jwaneng labour office registers 1 983 disputes

Jwaneng district labour office has registered 1 983 trade disputes from 2015 to date, 293 of which have been referred to the Industrial Court.

Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Annah Mokgethi said 1 250 of the cases involved security, construction, mining, farm workers and engineering companies which involved 246 companies/employers.

Additionally, Ms Mokgethi noted, over P690 000 was paid as severance benefits for 857 cases recorded from 2015 to date.

 Jwaneng/Mabutsane MP, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to brief Parliament on the performance of the Jwaneng labour office by stating the number of recorded cases concerning severance benefits from 2015 to date, and the number of payments made to clients from 2015 to date.

He also asked about the estimated amount in Pula of severance benefits paid to clients and the amount still owed to clients from 2015 to date.

Furthermore, Mr Reatile wanted to know the number of registered labour cases from 2015 to date, the number of cases deferred to the Industrial Court from 2015 to date, as well as the number of labour cases involving security, construction, mining, farm workers and engineering companies.

The minister was also  to provide a list of the companies/ employers. ENDs
