Tsabong brigade not in bad state

Tsabong Brigade is not in a bad state and the academic area of the institution was maintained in the 2018/19 financial year, says Assistant Minister of Education Mr Aubrey Lesaso.
He said maintenance works covered the classrooms and offices.
“This maintenance included painting, plumbing and installation of new air conditioners for the academic area.
In the year 2020/21 the parameter fence was replaced and the institution was also expanded to cater for a new additional programme of livestock farming,” said Mr Lesaso.
He added that Botswana Power Corporation was paid for upgrade of electricity supply to the school in the 2021/22 financial year in order to accommodate the envisaged new academic programmes.
Mr Lesaso said the staff houses area was the only part not covered by the maintenance works.
He, however, said procurement of materials to be used in maintenance of these facilities was ongoing.
“The first batch of materials has already been received. The maintenance will be carried out as a labour only project engaging skilled personnel from the Tsabong catchment area,” said the minister
Mr Lesaso said two courses only were currently offered at the brigade, noting that the courses were certificate in computer studies and certificate in accounting and business studies.
He, however, said plans were underway to introduce two additional programmes being livestock farming and brick-laying and plastering.
He said the intention was to commence the new programmes in August 2023.
He added that there were currently no plans to build a student hostel at the brigade.
“However, hostels will be considered in the near future as needs arise and funds permit,” said Mr Lesaso.
Kgalagadi South MP, Mr Sam Brooks had asked if the minister was aware of the bad state of Tsabong Brigade.
He also wanted to know if there were any plans to maintain and upgrade the school and when the school would have hostels to accommodate students. Ends
