Dedicated community members, supporters and staff of Block 10 Ward in Gaborone took part in a 10 km sponsored walk towards developing Block 10 Diamond Park.
The chief walker of the event which aimed at raising P2.5 million was the Mayor of Gaborone City Council (GCC) Mr Austin Abraham accompanied by the Indian High Commissioner Dr Rajesh Ranjan.
Speaking at the event, themed ‘walk towards developing Block 10 Diamond Park’, ward chairperson Mr Mike Modise urged Block 10 residents and companies in the area residents support the the project.
With a vision and strategy to develop Block 10, he said the Ward Development Committee (WDC) identified the diamond park as one of the key projects to attain their vision.
Mr Modise noted that the walk managed to raise P35 000 to kick start the commencement of the project which was expected to be complete in two years.
He explained that the 22 000 square metres Plot which was allocated to Block 10 ward in 2019, was zoned for recreational and other related ancillary land use amenity as determined by town planning statutes.
He said the idea of developing the plot came after consulting with Block 10 community, and a Diamond Shaped Dome project was presented to residents.
He said the diamond shaped dome would be an ideal land mark for Botswana, the best icon mark for the best diamond producing country.
The dome is also anticipated to be another tourism attractions site, an idea which fits well into GCC vision of transforming Gaborone into a Diamond City.
“This is a diamond park, we want to see it shining like a diamond, GCC want to turn this City into a Diamond Park and as Block 10 WDC we want to be part of this” he said.
Mr Modise said the interior of the dome would consist of facilities such as a modern international conference centres, shopping area, a multi-purpose hall and others. Ends
