Botshabelo Post Office to restore operations

02 Aug 2022

Botswana Post is assessing the business environment in anticipation of restoring the Botshabelo Post Office in Selebi Phikwe to full operations before end of this financial year.

Communications, knowledge and technology minister, Mr Thulagano Segokgo explained this when answering a question in Parliament on Monday.

Mr Segokgo said Botswana Post decided in October 2020 to operate the Botshabelo Post Office on a part-time basis due to non commercial viability of the post office resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The decision was reached in consultation with the town leadership. Two kgotla meetings were held on the 5th of October 2020 to inform residents of these developments in the company of the town leadership which included kgosi, mayor, district commissioner, councillors and members of Parliament office,” said the minister.

He noted that the post office currently operates in the first seven days of each month to service pensioners and Ipelegeng workers.

He added that other postal services were also provided during the days.

He further said post office boxes were still consistently being serviced, thus giving residents access to mail service.

“A convenience room is currently available to cater for the elderly who receive their payments at the end of the month. Furthermore, efforts would be made to increase convenience rooms once the post office is fully operational,” said the minister.

Selebi Phikwe East MP, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana had asked the minister to state if he intended to fast track or expedite the opening of the Botshabelo Post Office. Ends
