01 Aug 2022
Stanbic Bank has donated special education equipment to Bakgatla Primary School in Moshupa.
Speaking during a hand-over ceremony of the equipment recently, the bank’s head of commercial clients, Mr Basimane Tshepe, said education was an important aspect of the social-economic development of any country.
Therefore, he said there was a strong correlation between education and economic growth as well as social development, hence the need to partner with schools to develop education in the country.
Mr Tshepe said the bank donated 60 pairs of shoes, 36 mattresses, 56 sanitary towels and a series of books to teach learners about financial literacy, to equip them for the future.
He said the donation would impact on the livelihoods of the learners and the community at large, adding his bank shall continue to support the school with other initiatives to ensure special learners or learners living with disabilities are given the same opportunities as others.
He said the donation would give learners an opportunity to decide what they want and to become the best they could be.
Speaking at the same occasion, Moshupa North councillor, Mothibedi Golekanye thanked the bank for its endless efforts in developing education.
He said Bakgatla Primary School was blessed as the bank chose to donate to them, though there were many competing needs.
Mr Golekanye urged parents not to deprive their children the right to education and implored learners to study hard, emphasising that they should not be pushed to go to school or do school work.
On behalf of Moshupa community, he thanked the bank for the splendid work it was doing, saying such an initiative would ensure better academic performance.
The school head, Ms Alletta Visagie noted that the donation came at an opportune time and brought smiles to the school community’s faces.
She said it was not the first time Stanbic Bank assisted the school, having donated a fully-fledged poultry project before.
Ms Visagie said the bank’s foot prints would never be forgotten as the project would contribute to food security in the country.
For his part, Mmaseetsele headman of arbitration, Kgosi Koolebile Tsalaile said the school was doing well and learners were disciplined.
He noted that teachers were facilitators, while the bulk of the work was on the learners to develop themselves and implored learners to fear God, to attract blessings.
Kgosi Tsalaile said some special education learners progressed to become lawyers and critical pivots of the economy. Ends
