Catholic church blesses Moremi Primary School

Roman Catholic Church, Francistown diocese, has donated toilety to Moremi Primary School Special Education Department (SPED).

The church donated washing and bath soaps, towels, buckets, anti-perspirants, toilet papers and body lotions.

Speaking during the donation ceremony in Maun on Friday, Francistown diocese vice president, Ms Veronica Mabelebele, said the gifts were in accordance with the values of Christianity that encouraged generosity.

She said children with special needs were unique and required teachers who went an extra mile to make them feel worthy in society.

“As a society we should be able to integrate every person with special needs in to the society so that they feel a sense of belonging”, stated Ms Mabelebele.

She said learners with special needs were able to perform exceptionally well like any other, adding some of the children had graduated from vocational training schools and became successful in life.

She further commended teachers for their dedication in teaching and nurturing learners with special needs, adding she believed God shall reward them for their hard work.

School head, Ms Ngonda Setlhare explained that the special education department comprised 106 learners aged between seven and 18 under the guidance of 13 teachers and aiders.

She said the children were intellectually challenged on different levels of which they required different aid depending on their capabilities.

Ms Setlhare explained that learners were taken through stimulation teaching so that they could learn doing basic things like buttoning or brushing teeth.

Moreover, she said as they progressed some learners were able to grasp reading and writing skills then they would be integrated into mainstream education at standard one or a higher class.

“It’s a lot of work but we have trained teachers who are able to monitor and assess these children so that they are reviewed individuals to determine their strengths and capabilities,” stated Ms Setlhare.

The school head stated that for those who did nt get absorbed into mainstream education they remained at to learn practical skills like farming adding that their school had produced learners who enrolled at tertiary schools to study fashion and fabrics and tourism and hospitality.

Kgosi Rrapula Bampusi of Riverside Ward thanked the church for choosing the school for their CSR project.

He stated that the church had planted a seed into the school adding that these toiletries would go a long way in ensuring that learners were taken care of hygienically.

Kgosi Bampusi acknowledged the church for their good deeds quoting the Bible that, “Blessed is the hand that giveth.” Ends
