Malwelwe primary receives toiletry donation

Kweneng region education office, PEP Stores and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) have donated toiletry to Malwelwe Primary School in Letlhakeng Sub-district.

Speaking at the handing over event, Kweneng District Council chairperson, Mr Motlhophi Leo, said the donation was a result of the ‘back to school’ initiative, which aimed at identifying gaps in schools.

He said the donation would go a long way in reaching out to the needs of the marginalised learners.

Mr Leo applauded Kweneng region the region for working hard to help communities.

“The entire workforce was affected during the pandemic and through this activity, we are bridging the gap to add to other initiatives that the government is employing to address the effects of COVID-19 and at the same time curbing poverty,” he said.

He commended Kweneng region wellness team for coming up with the initiative that promoted working together as a team and in a way that demonstrated the solidarity and the patriotism within the workforce through donating from their own pockets.

He said one of their strategic objectives emphasized promotion of access and equity and it was befitting that they donated to the needy children.

Mr Leo thanked teachers for a job well done amidst all the challenges they faced.

Outlining the initiative objectives, Kweneng education director, Mr Steve Bothasitse, said through their initiative, they wanted to give back to the community.

He said the contributions made by regional officers, pupils, teachers and different stakeholders made the donation possible.

Mr Bothasitse said through the promotion of access and equity, they wanted to help learners get to school as a way of retention strategy.

He said PEP Stores donated 600 sanitary pads while Water Utilities Corporation donated pencil cases and sanitisers.

He further said special support services, Gothibamang primary and regional education teachers contributed a wide variety of toiletries.

The regional director prayed for God to continue helping them to give more so that they could reach their dream of building a house for one of the needy person or family in the near future.

A representative of PEP Sores and Now for Them, Ms Sarah Moilwa, said the donation had been made possible by customers who were requested to assist by donating sanitary pads to the store.

Through the initiative which seeks to keep a girl child in school, she said they had been able to donate sanitary pads.

Ms Moilwa said they would continue giving back to the community to help the girl child continue their education without qualms.

In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Bokau Tobe of Malwelwe said they were grateful for the job done by the Kweneng regional team, adding it would go a long way in addressing pupils’ needs.

Councillor Victor Mokgwaphe of Malwelwe said the region had done a commendable job which brought joy to the people of Malwelwe.

He said indeed they had been blessed to receive a donation of that magnitude which had been given out of love. Ends
