Letlhakane police station project to commence soon

31 Jul 2022

The long awaited Letlhakane police station project will soon commence.

Archtectonics has been officially handed over the site.

The 17.5 hectares site was handed over by the project coordinator in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Ms Tshepo Kebakile in Letlhakane Thursday.

Archtectonics lead consultant, Mr Mogomotsi Mohinda, said the project, which would cost government over P155 million, was a two year contract that would commence in August 2022 to 2024.

He said it was a single story development which had a first floor as a district police and ground floor as a community service center.

It also has an impounded vehicles yard and sports grounds, he further explained.

The building also has 40 housing units, four high cost houses, four medium cost and 32 low cost housing units.

Ms Kebakile said the project was proposed in 2008 and was deferred due to the economic meltdown.

The project, she said, was revisited in 2017 and it’s mobilization was delayed by the prolonged tendering process.

She said the expectation was that the project would create employment opportunities for the locals.

Kgosi Baruntshi Kegapetswe of Letlhakane said they had since yearned for a police station and a hospital and their village.

The traditional leader said some of the facilities which were supposed to link the police with the public should not be overlooked in delivering the project, citing bus stops and access road. ENDS
