The Mayor of Lobatse, Mr Jomo Dithebe on Wednesday met with the town’s business community to solicit support for the upcoming Lobatse mountain walk, slated for August 6.

The Mayor said the mountain walk was one of the annual activities meant to bring life to the almost deserted town and promote it as a tourist destination. “As Lobatse Town Council we have partnered with Zodiac Collabo Girls FC, who have a dream to raise stakes high in as far as women’s football in Lobatse is concerned,” he revealed.

He said the mountain walk project was intended to raise funds for the club’s activities as well as to contribute to the livelihoods of the people of Lobatse through financing the Mayor’s Fund. Mr Dithebe said the project could only succeed through the combined efforts of all stakeholders.

On behalf of the town clerk, Mr Diamond Tshotelo underscored the need for different companies to come on board if the event was to be a success.

He said their attendance would give them an opportunity to reach a wider audience, which would in turn ensure the success of their businesses.

Mr Tshotelo said the corporate world should also see the walk as an opportunity to give back to the community.

He also urged them to buy tickets for their employees for both wellness and team building purposes.

He said Lobatse’s rich history, which includes its contribution to the liberation struggle in the past, needed to be highlighted and celebrated.

Organisers of the event said the route would give hikers an opportunity to see some historical sites at the top of the hills sandwiching the tiny town as well as its breathtaking landscape.

There will be two categories: the five-kilometre walk, which attracts a registration fee of P150 and the 10km walk, which goes for P260, while corporate packages go for P1 400 for five kilometres and P2000 for 10km. ENDS
