BR to implement inquiry recommendations
28 Jul 2022
Botswana Railways (BR) is working on the safety recommendations from the public inquiry report on the 2019 passenger train accident.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale said BR had accepted and was working on 33 submitted recommendations for corrective action by the report.
He said 17 corrective action plans were completed.
“Nine are still work in progress while the remaining seven may take time to implement either due to their long-term nature or probably the need to do them in phases as a result of the cost implications,” he said
Mr Molale further said the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic had also constrained the financial ability of both BR and government to conclude all recommendations relating to the accident.
Sefhare/Ramokgonami MP, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang had asked the minister to give an update on the implementation of recommendations from the 2019 passenger train accident. ENDS
