Disagreements stall progress

20 Jul 2022

Construction of the Sehithwa Service Centre, which commenced in September 2020, has been halted due to contractual disagreements between the contractor and the North West District Council.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said the project would resume once ongoing consultations were complete.

“The project is currently at super structure brick wall level below rim beam, including paliside fencing, which is complete.

However, the project has stalled due to review of scope of works, which led to the increase in the contract sum.

Currently, there is some disagreement between the North West District Council and the contractor over his new rates, which are considered high,” he said.

Consequently, he said he was not in a position to state the exact date when the project would commence.

Ngami Member of Parliament, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama had asked for an update on the construction of the Sehithwa Service Centre and what stalled the progress and completion of buildings.

He also wanted to know when the people of Sehithwa and surroundings could expect to see a complete and functional service centre. Ends
