Selebi Phikwe government hospital has two oxygen concentrators in addition to 13 in the town’s peripheries.
The other concentrators are in Mmadinare hospital, which has four, Bobonong hospital (four), Isolation Centre (four) and Sesame Clinic, which has one concentrator
Responding to a parliamentary question on Thursday, Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe said in addition, his ministry had ordered 1 500 oxygen concentrators to be distributed across the country.
Furthermore, he said the hospital had two chillers, one fully operational while the other was out of service.
“The ministry has started procuring the compressor and controller and we are expecting them to arrive by the end of July,” he said.
He noted that a standby generator was commissioned in May to assist during power cuts at the Selebi Phikwe hospital.
He further acknowledged that the minor maintenance on the boilers was not sustainable, hence plans were underway to deploy contractors to do major maintenance across the ministry’s sites.
“We have taken a decision to do major maintenance for all the boilers and our expectation is that contractors will be on site by September,” he said.
Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to update Parliament on the status of oxygen concentrators, chillers in theatre, boilers and generators at the Selebi Phikwe hospital. BOPA
