No plans for council secretary in Nata

There are no plans to have a council secretary or senior assistant council secretary for the Nata Service Centre.
Responding to a question in Parliament last Thursday, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule said such positions were for district councils and sub-district councils respectively.
“Nata/Gweta is not a sub-district council, but rather a service centre under the Tutume Sub-district Council.
It is on this point that it does not have the postion of council secretary or even senior assistant council secretary,” said the assistant minister.
Mr Pule noted that out of the 16 local authorities under the ministry, only seven had sub-district councils.
“The combined total establishment of these sub-districts is 11 067, of which 967 are based at the headquarters while 10 098 are based at sub-district councils and service centres,” said Mr Puke.
Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister to state how long it would take for Nata to have a council secretary like other sub-districts and servcice centres across Botswana.
Mr Majaga also wanted the minister to state the number of officers who were posted to sub- districts and service centres during the decentralisation of such sub-districts. BOPA
