Two dilapidated properties repossessed in Lobatse

19 Jul 2022

Two dilapidated plots that were repossessed in Lobatse subsequent to a 2014 notice will be advertised with others by September, lands and water affairs minister, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila has told Parliament.

He said other undeveloped and dilapidated privately owned plots could not be repossessed due to various reasons advanced by the owners.

“Subsequent to the advertisement of the notice, the ministry received representations from the owners of the properties laying a claim to the properties and furthermore indicating that they will attend to the state of the buildings.

It must be indicated that some of the buildings were in operation.

The exercise resulted in the government being able to repossess two of the plots while for the other properties the government did not proceed with repossession on the basis of the objections and representations and promises made by the owners,” he said.

MP for Lobatse, Dr Thapelo Matsheka had asked the minister to inform Parliament when the ministry intended to repossess the dilapidated privately owned buildings in Lobatse after numerous recommendations by Lobatse Town Council in order to allow for face-lifting of the town centre. BOPA
