-Mapakata is classified as a cattlepost and as such the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is not aware of the number of people living in the area.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule told Parliament Wednesday that Mapakata, which is in Selebi-Phikwe West constituency, did not recieve any services from their ministry.

“There is no council that is servicing residents of Mapakata because it is not gazetted,” he said.

However, he noted that about seven pupils from Mapakata who attended schools in Selebi-Phikwe received the same services as the rest of the learners.

The MP for Selebi-Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had wanted to know the status of Mapakata area near Eastern Military Garrison and Water Utilities in Selebi-Phikwe. 

He also wanted clarity on the number of people living in the area and how they were assisted by the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council. 

Mr Keorapetse further asked how the ministry assisted children residing in Mapakata who attended school in Selebi-Phikwe. Ends
