Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU), in partnership with Capital Value (Archein Hardwares), on Tuesday July 12 launched a building materials’ scheme for its members.
Speaking at the launch in Gaborone, BOPEU President, Ms Masego Mogwera said BOPEU and Babereki Investment saw the need to provide an opportunity for members to have decent housing and shelter.
She said the building materials scheme would enable members to be home owners by building homes at affordable and subsidised prices.
Ms Mogwera explained that the scheme was also aimed at assisting members who could not afford or qualify for the Mmopane townhouses and apartments.
“With this building materials scheme, BOPEU members would get building materials at discounted rates and credit plus free transport anywhere across the country,” she said
The scheme, which has less rigid requirements, would be available to all members of BOPEU across the length and breadth of the country, she added.
Ms Mogwera encouraged members to utilise the scheme, adding that they were also allowed to apply more than once.
For his part, Babereki Investment Chief Executive Officer, Mr Vincent Galeromeloe said the scheme emanated from a careful needs assessment that was conducted on immediate member needs/services.
He said it became apparent that building materials were a very high priority item for members. He added that the benefits of the scheme included four percent monthly interest rate on reduced balance, with a maximum of amount of P200 000 credit.
Mr Galeromeloe said a member would have a minimum of 36 months to pay; can apply via telephone, email or WhatsApp and there would be no transport charges. Ends
