Morwaeng calls for patriotism at district level

As head of the civil service in their respective  localities, District  Administration  personnel should be patriotic and appreciate developmental strides Botswana has made since independence.

This was said by Minister for  State  President Mr Kabo  Morwaeng at the official opening of a district leadership workshop in Gaborone yesterday.

Minister Morwaeng  said  the civil service played a big role in the delivery of national priorities including accelerated job creation, eradication of abject poverty and improvement in the wellbeing of all Batswana.

Noting that government aspired to propel the country from an annual  GDP growth rate of 4.3  to 5.7 per cent  and high middle income  status  while  leveraging  on  the  fourth  industrial revolution, he said DA was  critical for coordinating  state activities and service delivery at local level.

“DA is the eyes and ears of government and needs to be at the forefront on governance oversight at district level,” he said.

Mr Morwaeng said it was DA’s responsibility to see to it that services were delivered and report back to the ministry on challenges encountered so that remedial action could be taken.

He challenged DA personnel to create good working relations with the communities they served.

“The success story of community enhancement lies with the good working relationship between the civil service and the local authority,” he stated.

Mr Morwaeng said it was crucial that the civil service had a common ground with other local authorities on project monitoring

He urged DA to support both macro and micro citizen entrepreneurs by sourcing materials from local producers and suppliers.

With regard to rationalisation of government portfolios, Mr Morwaeng said the aim was to bring similar functions together and eliminate duplication as well as overlaps for cost effectiveness.

He said the comprehensive reorganisation would encompass state owned enterprises commonly known as parastatals.

Several  parastatals would  be  restructured, ‘an exercise  that  will  be  characterised  by  mergers intended  to  remove  duplication  and  overlaps  of mandates and operations as well as the bringing in  of  strategic  private  sector  partners  to  help revitalize and develop selected ones’, he said.

adding that  it  is government’s desire for smooth implementation of services and policies across the country. BOPA
