Seherelela primary celebrates excellence

13 Jul 2022

Learners have been advised to turn challenges into opportunities for them to strive in their studies.

Speaking during Seherelela Primary School’s victory celebration recently, motivational speaker Mr Njabulo Gilika said challenges should not discourage learners, but act as motivation to work harder towards realising their dreams.

Mr Gilika said the PSLE 88 per cent pass rate by class of 2021 should influence current Standard Sevens to do better.

He said the victory celebration was also a motivation on its own, since recognising outstanding performance encouraged those that did not perform well to put more effort in their studies.

Mr Gilika said it was important not to give up in life, adding ‘if you fail, there is need to be persistent and determined, as that would ultimately bear the desired results. Give it your all and success would be yours”.

Deputy school head, Ms Doreen Matlho, said the purpose of the event was to recognise and celebrate outstanding performance, adding the school had emerged tops out of the 16 schools in the Kanye South region.

She said they were delighted because they also managed to surpass the 80 per cent regional target.

Ms Matlho attributed the positive results to hard work from teachers, learners and parents.

“I therefore thank all of you and urge you to continue working hard,” she added.

Due to lack of resources, she said they sometimes failed to undertake education trips, hence her plea to organisations to assist the school.

De Beers Group’s Mr Rafiki Makepe said it was important to support and encourage learners for them to succeed.

He said by supporting the school, De Beers was giving learners an equal platform as their counterparts in urban areas.

Mr Makepe said having made an effort to secure assistance from different organisations such as theirs, it was a sign that parents and teachers had learners’ interests at heart.

“They are eager to see these ‘diamonds’ prosper and we thank them for that,” he said.

Standard Seven class of 2021 teacher, Ms Lesego Ramokone, highlighted that they had been working tirelessly from 2018 and the celebration was a befitting appreciation of their hard work.

Ms Ramokone said she made time on weekends to assist her pupils and such sacrifice had ultimately paid off.

“I, therefore, urge parents to let their children attend extra lessons on weekends, as today we see the results of that hard work,” she said, adding working together always produced great results.

She said she had taught her learners to compete amongst themselves in order to produce desired results.

Ms Ramokone further thanked God for the outstanding performance, noting that it was not going to be possible without his grace.

Seven students, who attained grade As, were each awarded a laptop, gold medal and a  bag with stationery, while four who got Bs were given silver medals and bags with stationery.

The 11 who got Cs were awarded bronze medals and school bags.

De Beers Group sponsored the awards and also donated P25 000 to the school, Multotech gave the school P1 500, while Jwaneng Galaxy football club donated P4 000. BOPA
