For village development committees (VDCs) to be effective in their communities, they must be bold and innovative.
Serowe Administration Authority (SAA), principal economist, Mr Maatla Morokotso made the statement during a two-day induction workshop held recently in Serowe for the newly-elected village development committee members.
Mr Morokotso said village development committees were considered the parliament of their villages and as such, held power to make changes in their villages.
He shared, with the participants, the importance of project planning, noting that properly planned out projects lightened the workload of all stakeholders.
He advised them to follow the principle of SMART objectives for them to succeed.
Mr Morokotso said using technology would ease their work and enable them to communicate and share information given that they worked at different times.
He also challenged them to explore various income- generating avenues and also benchmark from other committees.
Mr Morokotso gave an example of Mathangwane village development committee, which he said had partnered with some company to building a mall and a filling station.
He said that went to show that they could do anything they put their minds to.
The participants appreciated the knowledge they acquired and pledged to put it to good use.
They pleaded with the council to help them with their projects. BOPA
