Kgatleng District Council Village Development Committees (VDC) have been trained on development issues to ensure effective execution of their mandate.

This was revealed by Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe at the ongoing full council session in Mochudi.

Mr Molokwe said trainees were divided into six groups and that the main objective of the training was to equip them with knowledge on the effective running of VDC offices.He said some of the topics included financial management, audit, group dynamics and corruption amongst others.

He noted that there was shortage of funds to train all the VDC members, but that an initiative was made to request VDCs to contribute towards their training which they acceded to.

He said there was a need to change the mindset of how VDC’s should operate, and that they should take charge of developing their villages with income they generated.

Mr Molokwe said it would also encourage VDC’s to find other revenue streams. ENDS
