Letloa Social Club has donated 87 school jerseys worth P4 500 to several schools in Ramotswa recently.
Letloa donated eight jerseys to each of Lesetlhana and Siga primary schools, while Ketshwerebothata, Mokgosi and Seboko primary schools received 10 each.
Kgetheng and St. Conrad’s primary schools got nine and 20 jerseys respectively.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Letloa team manager and vice captain, Mr Tlotlo Mmesi said the team members pledged any amount of their choice to raise the P4 500.
Another Ramotswa-based Swagger Boys Social Club contributed 25 jerseys while TM Wear company contributed 10 jerseys towards the initiative.
Mr Mmesi said the initiative came after realising that some pupils lacked proper school uniform, especially during winter.
He said they chose the said school because primary is the foundation of education, hence learners should be made as comfortable as possible for them to grasp what they were being taught.
The team manager said lack of warm and proper uniform could result in the pupils losing their dignity together with their confidence.
Mmesi said lack of school necessities could also lead to some learners losing interest in school.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Siga Primary School, the deputy school head, Ms Esther Mafhoko appreciated the great gesture by the social club.
Letloa has been donating food hampers to the needy in the village.
They have also built a pit latrine for a destitute person.
For his part, club chairperson Gaone Letshabo said financial constraints remained a challenge, encouraging fellow members to remain put as leaving the club could only destabilise the it.
He expressed appreciation for the community support, highlighting that Member of Parliament’s office occasionally invites them to play in some of the tournaments it facilitated. Letloa Social Club was established September 2020.
The club consists of 47 active members, non-players and players.
Initially it was a Sunday soccer football club, but has now included a community reach-out programme. ENDS
