Motor Vehicle Accident Fund will on Friday embark on a three-day road safety campaign aimed at promoting road safety and curbing road fatalities.

MVA senior corporate communications manager, Mr Mookodi Seisa said the event would kick start with a road safety campaign starting today to June 25 whose purpose is to disseminate messages on road safety as well as to conduct vehicle testing.

He said there would be two roadside stops in Orapa and Letlhakane.

Mr Seisa explained that there would also be a road safety march on Friday, in Orapa, to sensitise the community about the importance of using roads in a safe manner to avoid road crashes.

The theme of the event will be: Reset, Live Road Safety, which is a clarion call to all road users to make road safety part of their lives.

Mr Seisa emphasised change of mindset in line with the Reset Agenda.

On Saturday, there will be a workshop in Orapa to sensitise road users on the requirement for third party cover for foreigners registered vehicles and to also outline the mandate of the fund and its products and services.

Workshop participants he said, would include employees, business partners for Debswana, Orapa Letlhakane mines, Karowe mine at Lucara Botswana and representatives of hospitals in the area.

He said for the event to be a success, Letlhakane and Orapa must participate in large numbers.

For his part senior district traffic officer Supt Bakani Taleyana said from January to date the sub-district had recorded 182 total accidents with four fatalities and 21 serious injuries.

Common incidents in the area he said included speeding, driving without drivers’ license and failure to wear seat belt. ENDs
