Maun Senior Secondary School Class of 1975 on Monday donated thirty-two 25-litre sanitiser containers to their former school.
Speaking on behalf of the alumni at the donation, Professor Philip Bulawa stated that it was befitting for them to donate sanitisers because COVID-19 cases seemed to be surging again.
He said they would like to contribute more in the development of the school and urged the school management to involve them as much as possible, even during prize-giving ceremonies.
Prof. Bulawa said there was a diverse crop of professionals among the Class of 1975, who were willing to offer their expertise to propel the school to greater heights.
“Professional development is key in education, which calls for stakeholder and community involvement so that our veteran nurses and teachers and others could come here and share their knowledge and motivation with learners,” he said.
He stated that education required concerted efforts from learners themselves, teachers, parents and all other stakeholders.
Another alumnus, Mr Thato Kwerepe expressed hope that the school was still holding on to the culture of having church services to instill good behaviour and build good characters in learners.
The school head, Ms Kagiso Casalis thanked the alumni for the gift, saying the act would encourage pupils to excel in their academics.
She said it was commendable to see stakeholders being actively involved in education, saying this would help redeem the academic performance countrywide.
Ms Casalis said government encouraged schools to partner with the private sector, community and any individual interested in making a positive impact in education.
The school head highlighted that it was heart-warming to see people who had walked the corridors of the school coming back as retirees and professionals to advance the spirit of giving.
The head boy, Jaden Kgobero thanked the alumni for the sanitisers, noting that they would help fight the spread of COVID-19 in the school.
He said it was pleasing to see former learners coming back after so many years, to perform a good deed. BOPA
