Speaking during the handing over ceremony of Semane teaches quarters, senior assistant council secretary, Mr Mogorosi Kokoro said the teachers quarters project commenced in 2018 as part of efforts to curb teachers accommodation shortage.
He said the contractor was given two years to complete the project, which cost P30 million.
Mr Kokoro said the contractor faced challenges along the way such as the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, theft of building materials on site, connection of water and connection of electricity.
He noted that the project was completed out of the set timeframe.
“The only block that we will not hand over for now is the one allocated to St Gabriel Primary School because it is expected to be completed by July ” he said.
In an interview, the Newtown Primary School head teacher, Ms Patricia Lesole expressed gratitude saying the houses came at the right time.
She also noted that her school had three teachers who would be awarded presidential awards in recognition of their good performance.
Mr Phuthego appealed to school heads to ensure equal distribution of the houses and to safeguard them. ENDS
