Popa girls in the Run for the Title

29 Jan 2013

Township Rollers’s 5 -0 thumping of Untouchable over the weekend has brought them closer to the title AT &T Women football league title.

Mmamasire girls are second on the log with 48 points behind Double Action who are perched at 49 points. Rollers took the lead in the seventh minute through Bame Ngenda who swerved the ball past a mortified Untouchable defence at the goal post.

Popa girls were in possession of the ball most of the time as the opponents fumbled in the middle of the park and failed to challenge Rollers’s goalie. Ten minutes down into the game, Thato Matabate brought joy to Rollers’ fans as she homed in a Sendelinah Katjiwa cross, leaving the opponents scratching their heads.

Untouchable’s Nondi Mahlasela made a miniscule counter attempt in the 18th minute through a corner kick but a reflexive Sedilame Bosija responded well and gloved the ball.

In the 38th minute Roller’s Golebaone Selebatso almost made it three nil as Doreen Madawe left the posts to counter. However Selebatso’s ball went wide. With just five minutes to half time, Untouchable defenders woman-handled down Katjiwa in the box and handed Rollers a penalty on a silver platter and Katjiwa wasted no time in banging in another goal.

Untouchable came back in the second half oozing confidence as they launched a few attacks but Rollers defence was always in time to counter. The visitors seemed exhausted as they fell to the ground frequently while Popa were as energetic as ever going forward.

On the 85 minutes Ngenda converted a corner as Untouchable goal keeper failed to clear the ball in the box and parried it into the opponent’s feet allowing Ngenda to claim a brace. It could have been worse, had Rollers managed to use all their chances.

A pat on the back must also go to Untouchable keeper Madawe who on numerous occasions saved the team further humiliation as its pourous defense committed mistake after mistake. Substitute, Kelebogile Mosarwa wrapped up the score line in the 90th minute as she released a bullet that left the goalkeeper wondering whatever happened.Ends
