The first ever upgraded Master Facility List (MFL), a website providing a register of health facilities in Botswana, launched Friday, will improve visibility of the facilities and their respective services.

“The MFL includes data needed to accurately identify each facility in Botswana such as facility name, unique facility identifier, location, contact information, facility type, ownership and services offered,” Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti said when launching it.

While 90 per cent of the population could access health services within a radius of 8km the main problem had been lack of comprehensive information about the various facilities and the services they offered, he said.

With coordinates and stated opening and closing times for every health facility in Botswana, the website would not only make it easier for people to know where and when to go for their health needs, but would also ensure planning, management and targeting of services, he said. 

“I have no doubt that tourists and other international guests will also benefit from this great initiative,” said the minister.

Dr Dikoloti added the initiative was in line with the ministry’s e-Health Strategy and would form the backbone for interoperability of various data systems. BOPA
