Kauxwi Clinic project behind schedule

09 Jun 2022

Despite having started more than two years ago in October 2019, construction of Kauxwi clinic is not yet complete.

Currently, the project is 80 per cent done, but there is no definite date of completion.

During a tour of the project on Tuesday, Member of Parliament for Okavango, Mr Kenny Kapinga expressed disappointment about how slow the project was moving.

According to Ministry of Health clerk of works, Mr Boy Lydia, the project was allocated 12 months to have been completed.

However, challenges among them, COVID-19 contributed to the delay, he said.

Mr Lydia said workers were demotivated when they were not paid accordingly and the project fell behind schedule.

He said the contractor had requested for a three-month extension to complete the project though the remaining works might take two months from June if employees were paid accordingly.

Kauxwi Clinic project site manager, Mr Julious Mabutho said all material was on site and what was lagging behind was fitting the ceiling and painting.

For his part, Kauxwi Clinic head of department, Mr Jojo Gosekwang said that construction of staff houses should be expedited because it would be difficult for nurses to go to work from somewhere else at night because of wild animals. BOPA
