Khubamang Secures Scholarships

Councillor for Ledumang, Mr Thuso Khubamang, has been lauded for facilitating a scholarship programme, which has enabled four young people to study Information Technology as well as Travel and Tourism at Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS Botswana). 

Speaking during the launch of the Thuso Khubamang scholarship programme, which is a partnership with Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies, in Gaborone on Tuesday, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Mr Kgopotso Ramoroka commended Mr Khubamang’s efforts of contributing towards the attainment of a knowledge- based economy as well as the upliftment of the community. 

Mr Ramoroka said education was key to empowering every young Motswana to become an innovative leader. 

“Education is the most important path to empower an individual and as government, we strongly believe that the scholarships awarded today will not only empower the youth, but afford them the necessary skills to sustain themselves,” he said. 

Mr Ramoroka also commended Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies, adding, ‘it is especially pleasing to realise that some private tertiary institutions have heeded governments call for Public-Private Partnership and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives’. 

He said such initiatives were also in line with Vision 2036, urging more companies to follow suit and contribute to the development of Botswana. 

For his part, Mr Khubamang said he wanted to afford the youth in his community the opportunity to attain an educational qualification, adding that his organisation, Scud Missile promotions, had previously sought more than 120 scholarships for former inmates across the country. 

“I would like to continue to widen access to tertiary education and transform the next generation of Batswana into skilled, confident and capable individuals, who can contribute towards building their country’s economy,” he said. 

Mr Khubamang, a former boxer, said he intended to roll out the scholarship programme to other regions beyonf the capital city and also partner with other educational institutions. BOPA
