Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA), councillors and officers have been commended for maintaining a good working relationship to ensure efficient service delivery.
The authority’s chairperson Mr Lesedi Phuthego made the politicians and officers when officially opening Serowe sub-district council virtual meeting held virtually on Monday.
Mr Phuthego thanked councilors for their contributions and urged them to pull together to ensure successful implementation of district developments.
‘’Together, members and officers make up the SAA. They are crucial to one another and mutual respect and communication between them is essential for good local government,’’ he said.
Mr Phuthego said by working together they brought in critical skills, experience and knowledge required to manage an effective council.
Councillors, he said, provided a democratic mandate to the council, whereas officers contributed the professional and managerial expertise needed to deliver the policy framework agreed upon by councillors as well as provide evidence-based advice to leaders.
He said mutual respect between employees and councillors was essential as that ensured working relationships remained professional. The chairperson also updated councillors on the P40 million maintenance work of Serowe mall internal roads, which he said was 90 per cent complete.
He applauded Asphalt Botswana, which is carrying out the maintenance work for employing locals.
Mr Phuthego also briefed the meeting on the constitutional review process, and said commission of enquiry appointed by the President to gather ideas from Batswana had already visited some of the villages in the district.
He also thanked councilors who mobilised people to participate in the exercise. ends
