Letlhakane Sub-land Board grapples with residential plot allocation

07 Jun 2022

Letlhakane Sub-land Board is grappling with 40 142 on the waiting list to be allocated plots.

The Boteti Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe said on Monday when briefing the sub-council session in Letlhakane that land allocation was still a challenge in the sub-district.

Mr Galeragwe said Letlhakane Sub-land Board continued to receive applications from Letlhakane, Mmatshumo, Mokobaxane and Makgaba villages.

He, however, said a base map of 28.35 hectares of land had been secured to avail business plots for committed developers on a free enterprise zone in Letlhakane.

In addition, he said layout preparation of Makgaba village for 398 plots was approved on March 10, and allocation process was expected to commence on June 20.

Mr Galeragwe stated that in Letlhakane, Buuhe ward layout of 967 plots was approved on November 26, 2021, while allocation commenced in March, this year and was still ongoing with the current allocation at 44 plots.

Furthermore, he stated that the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs on April 20, embarked on  a series of consultative meetings with relevant stakeholders on the new Tribal Land Act of 2018.

The benefit of the act, he said, was that land would be surveyed, registered and would have enhanced security features.

Land owners, Mr Galeragwe said, would now be able to source funds from financial institutions using their plots as security.

Commenting, Councillor Eric Sekausu of Xere requested a special dispensation for the people of Xere on the allocation of commercial plots.

Councillor Mabona Makuane of Mosu requested a briefing as to when plot allocation would be carried out. Ends
