Man up and break silence - activist

06 Jun 2022

Walk of Hope Botswana will on June 16 host a business talk show at Cresta Lodge to empower men and boys.

in Gaborone on Thursday, director and founder of Walk of Hope Ms Theriso Motsumi-Motsemeng noted that the main aim of the show was to encounrage men and boys to consider themselves as valuable assets.

“This was initiated after conducting the teen mother’s project that was purposely aiming at sending them back to school.

We realised that a teenage father was left out while he is also facing the same challenge of being a father while he is also a child,” she said.

Therefore, she said this year the foundation came up with the initiative ‘A Makgela a Butswe’ through which they cater for men and the boy child.

She explained that the initiative was aimed at equipping men and boys with relevant skills and knowledge for them to change mindset and be responsible men and boys of integrity.

Ms Motsumi-Motsemeng highlighted that the talk show themed; Let’s Man Up and Break the Silence would feature different panelists such business people, victims of teenage pregnancy and perpetrators.

The expected output of the talk show is to see men and boys coming out of the closet reporting GBV, reduced number of teenage fathers, number of men and boys as perpetrator and GBV cases she said.

Ms Motsumi-Motsemeng  further said that the talk show also intends to restore confidence and hope for the teenage fathers and equip men with relevant skills and knowledge to enhance proper guidance in boy child upbringing.

Ms Motsumi-Motsemeng  called on men and boys to come in numbers to voice out their concerns, to restore their self-esteem and to learn from others.

Walk of Hope is a non-profit organisation established in 2009 with a Better Child, a Better Botswana motto. ENDS
