31 Oct 2013

Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) will on Saturday (November 2) launch the Re Ba Bona Ha Boxing Centre at Ipelegeng Junior Secondary School in Lobatse.

A press release from BoBA stated that the first Re Ba Bona Ha Boxing Centre was launched at Glenn Valley in 2008 when the association joined the Re Ba Bona Ha programme, which is sponsored by Debswana Diamond Company and the Botswana National Sports Council.

The release stated that the launch of the boxing centre came at a time when Botswana boxers were rendering outstanding performances in many regional, continental and international boxing competitions.

The statement said if the association was to maintain and further enhance these performances, there was need to continually identify and develop talented boxers hence the interest and commitment to the Re Ba Bona Ha projects as a grassroots sport development programme.

The press release said Re Ba Bona Ha Boxing Centre would give children in Lobatse an opportunity to explore their boxing talents at a tender age and also offer them an opportunity to be coached by experienced and qualified coaches.

“Botswana Boxing Association sees the launch of the centre as an opportunity to identify and nurture prospective Olympics medalists and world champions,” it states.

The statement said the event would be attended by the Lobatse community, representatives from the Botswana National Sports Council and Debswana Mining Company. It further stated that they were indebted  to the Debswana Diamond Company who had generously contributed sponsorship of over millions of Pula to the Re Ba Bona Ha programme over the past five years.
