Charleshill agricultural show is expected to bounce back in grand style following two years break due to the surge of COVID -19.
Farmers use agricultural shows to reach the desired market for their produce and are already hopeful to do so during the show set for June 7-12.
In an interview Senior District Officer Development at Charleshill sub district, Mr Tebogo Mekwe said despite lack of sponsorship, exhibitors from the region and beyond were willing to bring high quality livestock and arable produce to the show.
“Farmers also use this show as a yardstick to check their preparedness ahead of the crowd pulling Ghanzi district show scheduled for July 25-30,’’ he stated.
He said that agricultural shows played a critical role in boosting the local economy. However, he said private sector was not willing to partner with show committee.
He said farmers show committee in collaboration with office of district commissioner and council were committed in delivering the fourth edition of Charleshill Agricultural show.
Activities of the show, he said included a gala dinner on June 10 and Ekori Lodge have availed the venue for the night-time spectacular and would offer food at subsidised rates.
Senior District Officer Development explained that one farmer, Mr John Tidi has donated a white brahman bull to be auctioned at the show, to be officially opened on June 11.
To pump the spectators adrenalin Mr Mekwe said they would seal the day with horse race while livestock auction sale is set for June 12.
Mr Mekwe explained that all food stalls were sold out while the two liquor –rest stalls would go through bidding process given the high demand for them.
Children entertainment stalls, tree nursery, he said would be available and five individuals would have chance to acquire hawkers operational license.
Mr Tidi said government department stall goes for P1000 while private or parastatals stalls goes for P1500.
He noted that government departments, private as well parastatals were keen to participate in this show.
Mr Mekwe was happy that the Charleshill agricultural show has been listed in tourism calendar of event, saying this enabled them to plan the show better in future and lobby sponsors well in time, saying this would also give agricultural show devotees to plan in time. Ends
