Self-sponsor for personal growth - minister Morwaeng

30 May 2022

Part time training remains key in broadening one’s scope, career development as well as improving service delivery, Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has said.

Minister Morwaeng was speaking at a farewell event held on Saturday organised by colleagues, friends and family for BOPA reporter Ms Kebaeditse Baitlotli, who is
retiring from the public service next week after 41 years of continuous service.

The minister encouraged public officers to embark on self-sponsorship, saying continuous training was not only important for one to benefit professionally, but was also essential for investing in one’s personal development in order to keep up with best practices in the services they provided.

As such, he implored public employees to initiate part-time training and not only wait for government’s training plan.

“Training brings about measurable changes in an employee’s knowledge skills, attitude and general behaviour,” he said.

He therefore commended Ms Baitlotli, who after joining the Department of Information Services, embarked on an academic quest which resulted with her attaining a Bachelor’s Degree from Nelson Mandela Metropolis University in South Africa.

The minister, whose portfolio covers government media, said the discipline gained in public service was enough to sustain officers once they retired from office.

“I am concerned by officers who suffer abject poverty after retirement. Government has various programmes they can use while working to enable them to sustain their lives after retirement,” Minister Morwaeng said. BOPA
