Mmusi to participate in AU extraordinary sessions

Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi will attend the15th and 16th Extraordinary Sessions of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea from May 27 to 28.

A media release from the ministry says Mr Mmusi, who will accompanied by senior government officials, will be representing President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi at the meetings.
The release states that the 15th extraordinary session, which will focus on humanitarian issues, will be held on May 27under the theme: Humanitarian Financing which Addresses the Current Challenges in Africa.
It says the summit will among others; discuss issues of climate change, disaster and forced displacement in Africa, post-conflict reconstruction and development for refugees and internally displaced persons in Africa; and consider measures for the protection of vulnerable groups in humanitarian situations.
It further states that the May 28, extraordinary session will focus on terrorism and unconstitutional changes of government under the theme: Robust Response, Deepening Democracy, and Collective Security.
The release also says the session is expected to deliberate on the threats of terrorism and violent extremism on the continent; consider measures to support AU Member States facing terrorism and violent extremism; and mobilise international support to tackle terrorism. Ends
