Botswana being a country whose diamond resources have contributed much to national development deserves to be afforded the opportunity to host the Kimberley Process (KP) Secretariat.,President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said this in a meeting with Switzerland cabinet minister, the Federal Councillor for Home Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, Mr Alain Berset in Geneva, Switzerland on Sunday.
He said Botswana's prudent management of diamonds and other resources, the utilisation of mineral revenue to finance development and the country's transparent background in trade, merit hosting the secretariat.
Also vying to host Kimberly Proces Proces Secretariat are China and Austria. The Kimberly Process is  a coalition of governments, mining industry business and civil society from 85 countries committed to promoting fair diamond trade and combating the illicit flow of blood diamonds.
The two leaders also discussed other issues of mutual interest .
The two leaders also talked about issues of mutual interest between the two countries including cooperating on economic and health issues as well as the fight against COVID 19.
President Masisi also had opportunity to meet Kenyan  President, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta. The two leaders discussed environmental and issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. ENDS
