Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has donated a bus shelter to the Selebi Phikwe community.
Handing over the bus shelter, at the industrial stop on the Selebi Phikwe/Serule road on Wednesday, WUC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) chairperson, Mr Monametsi Jabari said the corporation was cognizant of its duty to conduct its business in a socially responsible manner, hence giving back to the community.
He said the corporation sought to contribute to the economic development and improve the quality of life of people in different communities around the country, where possible.
Mr Jabari said the over P33 000 bus shelter, would help commuters against harsh weather conditions and also help make travelling easier and more pleasant.
Receiving the donation, Selebi Phikwe Mayor, Mr Lucas Modimana commended WUC for going beyond its mandate, to help the community.
Mr Modimana said the bus shelter would not only benefit commuters from Selebi Phikwe, but also those along the Mmadinare/Damuchojenaa/Serule highway corridor.
He, thus urged the community to take care of the shelter, for it to even benefit the generations to come.
Mr Modimana implored the community to report all acts of vandalism and help keep messages on the bus shelter intact.
For his part, Kgosi Molosiwa Molosiwa of Kagiso Ward also commended WUC for the donation, saying it would make a difference in people’s lives. Kgosi Molosiwa urged other companies to embark on projects that help in addressing societal challenges.
He also urged the community to save water to avoid high water bills and also encouraged them to pay their bills to enable the corporation to carry out its mandate. ends
